Article 1
What is “worship”?
People everywhere worship something or somebody, so whatever is worthy of your devotion and time you will reverence. In most cases worship is seen as singing, clapping of the hands, a church service, but Christian worship requires;-
- Submission to God
- An expression of love
- To honor and adore Him
- It is our reaction or response to His presence.

The Church Service
Many times you will hear the moderator say when welcoming the congregation, “welcome to the worship part of our service”, but we need to understand that the singing, preaching, offering (though done at different times) are all part of the Worship Service.

Seeking The Right Balance
Song Selection
Over the years the issue of song selection and music in the church has always been creating problems within the church and this has caused us to loose our focus.
Most congregations are unique in their cultural and demographic status; and worship leaders need to take this into consideration. Now what we need to consider here is that the main purpose is to lead the congregation into total worship with God; and this can be best described as taking a journey.
In order to select the right songs, we need to understand ‘Praise and Worship’ and here is where the journey begins; Praise or Praise songs talks about God and then this leads to worship where the songs are now focused on God or one can say, talk to God. In Psa. 95 :1-7 we can see clearly this pattern , it opens with Praise, oh come and let us sing to the Lord, let us shout joyfully….and from vs6 we can see where the focus is now on God; oh come and let us worship and bow down, let us kneel before the Lord our maker.
In seeking the right balance, we must understand that hymns and contemporary worship songs can be selected; but this will require prayer, proper planning, and basic knowledge of music so the songs can be executed smoothly.
With this in mind our main focus will always be to Honor God in all that we do.
