One of the best ways to define ‘Worship’ can be taken from Rom12:1
“ I beseech you therefore brethren, by the mercies of God that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.”
All though there are different ways in which we can worship and we also know that in everything that we do, our life is worship; But we will take a look at the music part of worship. But first we must understand what worship is, then we will look at the ‘Music” aspects of it.
In the dictionary, worship is defined as; the reverent love and devotion accorded to a deity, idol or a sacred object.
The Greek definition uses phrases as ‘falling down before’ and ‘paying homage to, serving’.
To worship genuinely means to know God and to have a relationship with him, but Warren Wiersbe wrote one of the simplest definitions I came across thus far,
“Worship is the believer’s response of all that they are – mind, emotions, will, body – to what God is and says and does”. (Warren Wiersbe, Real Worship, p. 26)
Worship is the total submission of us to God, our total and obedient surrender to His Love, His will and His purpose. It is not self-centered.
